Clubs
Lions' service activities are essentially decided and carried out
by the clubs themselves. Clubs focus their work according to the needs
of their communities. They co-operate closely with the authorities
and other service organisations to maximise their impact. Many clubs
carry out programmes or respond to disaster relief, to help the needy
or those in distress in other countries. They may join up with Lions
or other service organisations in these countries or act in concert
with international aid efforts. Lions clubs' activities fall into
two categories, namely Fund-Raising projects and Service activities.
Contexted to local requirements,
Lions Clubs in Singapore carry out service work in key areas fostered
by Lions Clubs International and for which they provide support, namely:
Strong clubs are the foundation
of effective service. Lions Clubs engage extensively in programmes
of club building and development, including Women's Membership Development
and Participation, under its MERL programmes.
District Programmes
Where all clubs join together to
conduct or carry out a service or project, these are known as District
Programmes. Currently, there are two permanent programmes, namely
the Lions Home
for the Elders and the Lions
Befrienders.
Singapore clubs have also instituted
the Lions Community Service Foundation, to mobilise funds for Lions
work. In addition, the District Governor may in each year launch specific
district projects.
