My warmest greetings to all Lions as we all together start the new Lionistic year 2010-2011.

I extend my best wishes to all Presidents and Cabinet Officers as they start their respective term of office. I  spent 10 days in Sydney attending the Lions Clubs International District Governors -  Elect Seminar and the 93rd Lions Clubs International Convention.

It was an enriching experience meeting fellow Governors - Elect, sharing ideas and our experience. The learning from the c lass sessions and seminars was informative and enlightening.

Let us be reminded that core to being a Lion is “ To Serve”.  I am glad that International President Sid L. Scruggs III is emphasing on service.

All clubs are encouraged to establish a signature service project and look into service in the following areas:-

  1. Youth
  2. Preventable Blindness
  3. Hunger
  4. Environment

Presidents, I urge all of you to look into developing and establishing a signature service project for your club in the above areas if possible or generally – a project that is meaningful, significant and something you can be proud to proclaim. You may consider doing the project on your own or jointly with other clubs. My cabinet officers will be pleased to assist you.  International President will recognise outstanding achievement by clubs and districts in the area of service and more details will be given later.

District Governor Lion Steven Seah has served the Lions' movement for 20 years and had held numerous leadership positions over these years. Apart from dedicating his time to Lionism, Lion Steven Seah is also actively involved in the Criminal Law Advisory Committee (Review), SAFRA and Pistorio Foundation. He was conferred the Pingkat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM) Public Service Medal by His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Singapore in 2002.

The International President’s theme is “ A Beacon of Hope”. We can be that beacon of hope to the community and we can achieve this if we are “ Spirited in Service” as we serve the community.

May all Lions in Singapore have a rewarding and fulfilling year as we show the way in service.
I end with an excerpt from the song Beacon of Hope:

“When the raging storms of life rush in, bringing darkness
When the dream fades and despair takes its place
Then like a faithful lighthouse on the distant shore
A Lion stands as a ray of light to show the way.”
